Move Out

  • When do I need to move out?

The lease ends the Sunday after graduation at 5:00 p.m. If you are all moved out before then, please let us know so we can set the alarms in the house.

  • What do I need to do before moving out?

    • Remove all belongings from the house
    • Make sure all trash bags are tied up and placed outside in trash cans
    • Make sure your apartment/house is just as clean as it was when you moved in. (Please see the move-out letter we emailed to you for what needs to be done.)
    • Unplug your refrigerator, empty all items from refrigerator and freezer, and leave the refrigerator door open so it doesn't mildew
    • Fill out the key form and leave all your keys on your bedroom dresser. If you leave before your roommates, you can lock your bedroom door. (Please leave all of your keys -house/apartment, bedroom, and laundry room (if applicable) on your dresser even if you lock the door.)
  • What do I need to do if I’m coming back to the same apartment or house?

    • Lock your house, bedroom doors, and all windows and take ALL your keys with you.
    • Common areas (not bedrooms) will be cleaned, so be sure to remove all items from the floors and bathroom and kitchen counters so that the cleaners are able to clean thoroughly.
    • Remove all items from the refrigerator and freezer and unplug them. Leave the refrigerator door open so it doesn't mildew. Also remove any perishable items (for example bread) from the cupboards.
    • Remove all trash and place outside in the garbage cans.
    • Do not leave any valuables in your apartment/house over the summer. Take them all home with you.

  • What if I damaged or broke something?

If you damaged or broke something, please let us know before you leave or everyone will be charged equally.

  • What if my roommate broke something in his/her room?

Each person is responsible for any damages in their personal bedroom.

  • What if I’m returning for next year, but switching rooms?

    • Contact our office before you leave to let us know you will be switching rooms.
    • You must move all your items out of your room before you move out so we can inspect and clean the room before the new person moves in. Your belongings cannot be left in the common areas or moved to the new bedroom you will be taking over because that room will need to be inspected and cleaned as well. (You can ask one of your returning roommates to store your items in their room for the summer or you can bring them home.)
    • Take your apartment/house and laundry room (if applicable) keys with you but leave your bedroom key on your dresser. Please do not give this to the incoming tenant.
  • Can I leave stuff for the next person moving in?

Unfortunately, we are unable to allow this as it makes it difficult for the cleaners to clean. Also, in the past we have had problems with miscommunication between tenants regarding what is being left and what is actually wanted by incoming tenants. Any items left will be donated or discarded.

  • What if I need to stay an extra day?

Email us with the date you want to stay for approval. This must be done at least a week before the move-out date so we can adjust our schedule for pre-arranged move out inspections. We will not be able to approve requests after that date.

  • When will I get my security deposit back?

Security deposits will be returned after we complete our inspections. You can expect them about a month after the end of the lease.
